Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 20:13

One of the many advantages of Drupal is the size of it's very active community. There are currently 348,918 sites running Drupal, with about 95% running a version of Drupal 6. Drupal is open-source and encourages developers to write their own modules and share them with the community. Currently there are 6,979 modules available for download!

Here are a few of our favorite Drupal modules:

  • CCK + Fieldgroup, ImageField: Allows you to add custom fields to nodes - essential for just about any Drupal site.
  • Webform: Takes the guesswork out of creating forms, surveys and polls.
  • Pathauto: Generates Friendly URLs automatically with rules the user defines.
  • Nodewords: Allows users to add meta tags, e.g. keywords or description.
  • Wysiwyg + editor of your choice: Allows user to choose from a number of WYSIWYG editors - we are currently using CKEditor.
  • Block edit: Adds edit links to blocks to make block administration easier.
  • Views: Creates customized lists and queries from your database - basically, it does just about anything with your data.
  • Google Analytics: Adds Google Analytics javascript tracking code to the bottom of all your site's pages.
  • Administration Menu: When logged in as an administrator, this module adds a time-saving administration menu to the top of the window.
  • Panels: Lets the site administrator create customized templates, making it easier to move elements around a page based on a unique layout.
